Good evening all – I just thought I would update you on everything that has been going on since Supanova Brisbane back in November last year (2017) My goodness it seems so long ago! I recently got accepted into a Bachelor of Visual Arts here in Brisbane, so a lot of my time is […]
With all the challenges popping up this time of year – Sketchtember, Inktober, Drawlloween, NaNoDrawMo and various others, it’s difficult to keep up with them all. Personally, I took on Octobers’ challenge of “Drawlloween”, which is 31 days of prompts to draw and ink. It’s very similar to both Inktober and Drawtober, just with […]
Mark Twain once said “There is no such thing as a new idea.”. It sometimes seems the same with comics – all the super-hero powers have seemingly been done, well, all the good ones. Smelly-shoes isn’t really a super-power that anyone would actually want to have. All the good plots and backstories have been so […]
I’m always up for drawing prompts! Especially when my mind goes blank, just like the paper infront of me when I’m holding a pencil ready to be creative. Sketch Book Skool, an online platform designed to teach how to draw and sketch, often partake in challenges – with tips and sample “klasses” available, as well […]
I first met Tim at Brisbane Supanova two years ago when he sat next to me at his booth. He had his new comic Sunsets and Sodas for sale, and was taking commissions. He was so busy all weekend. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Tim again at Gold Coast Supanova April 2017, and it was there I asked him to write an article on how to take commissions at conventions and events.
Being a genuinely great guy and fantastic artist, he agreed on the spot, and it’s with pleasure I present to you:
How to Take Convention Commissions

One of the friendliest and skilled artists I’ve ever met at a convention would have to be Anthony Christou, an artist that brings amazing skills in landscape and character design to his fans and the public in general.
Anthony has been creating art for the last five years (and beyond), has a Patreon page (which I support monthly), and currently has a Kickstarter campaign for his brand new Worlds and Creatures – the Art of Anthony Christou. The book is 100 pages, hard cover and full of art of his last five years of publishing, video games, comic and film projects he has worked on. (more…)
A while back, I posted a new challenge I created to help people realise they only need a small amount of money to start creating their art studio.
Well, the video is in, and for only $20, I got everything I needed to create a sweet little coloured pencil illustration from start to finish. (more…)
Facebook is a fantastic tool for illustrators, comic creators and all sorts of creatives to talk to others involved in the industry. Recently, a group I was in had German artist, Olga Rogalski, make a post about how long it took her to produce a manga novel.
Hey guys, Kay with MCA Studios here, bringing you a topic that usually doesn’t get discussed in the lead up to conventions.
Post con depression (or post con blues).
I talk about this now, because I’ve just had a dose of it, and wanted to share how I got myself through it, but first a little back story. (more…)
Hi guys – Kay here with a quick update for you all about what is happening with MCA Studios over the next few months.
As you know, Supanova season is upon us, and the 22/23 April will see MCA Studios have its first Supanova table! This is so exciting for me, because who knew back in August last year that I would get to this stage of having enough Australian creator content to put on a table to sell on behalf of those creators? (more…)
