Hi guys – Kay here with a quick update for you all about what is happening with MCA Studios over the next few months.
As you know, Supanova season is upon us, and the 22/23 April will see MCA Studios have its first Supanova table! This is so exciting for me, because who knew back in August last year that I would get to this stage of having enough Australian creator content to put on a table to sell on behalf of those creators? The fact that half of the creators that stock with MCA Studios have their own table, and I still have enough stock to sell is fantastic! I have also reached out to a few interstate creators to see if they would like to put some stock on the table, and they have been more than willing to send things up just for this event.
What I really wanted to do was to print out some maps, and put circles around all the creators who I thought were worth visiting (people who I have met in the past who I know make quality content), but the map would be one big highlighter scribble there are so many I would have to colour the entire page.
MCA Studios now has business cards and a poster to put up on the backing wall to let everyone know what this business is all about, and it’s smack bang in the middle of Artist’s Alley! I’m looking at adding buttons and magnets to the stock before the next event as well, so let me know what you’d like to see.
This is the fourth year I will be at Supanova as a table holder, but the first year that won’t be exclusively my art. There will be a small A5 folder with postcards and prints that I have made, but that’s about it.
So, On the 27th April at Ace Comics and Games in Annerley, MCA Studios will be attending the Dice and Pixel’s Indie Showcase from 6pm til 9pm. This event is great for checking out new ideas, content, games, podcasts and artists, and you can even purchase from MCA Studios’ online range on the night!
Ace Comics and Games in Annerley is also hosting Free Comic Book Day on the 6th of May, which will have free commissions by local talent, free comics and choice comics being sold by local creators throughout the day. A swap-meet of pre-loved comics is also happening on the day, and the whole arcade is getting in on the action. This kicks off at 9am.
Every month, I host a drawing meet-up group at Ace Comics in Annerley (I’m starting to see a pattern here), in May, you can come along on the 13th May from 9.30 in the gaming room. Check it out on Facebook closer to the time.
I was going to head to Comic Gong on the 13th of May, but funds have been a bit tight with unexpected bills, so I will have to forgo that this year.
On the 30th of June at Garden City Library from 12.30pm to 5.30pm, you are invited to sit in on a panel of local comic creators who have produced their own content. This is aimed at young adults, but I’m inviting anyone who wishes to come along. Guest panelists to be advised.
The 1st June at Garden City Library from 9am will have a comic marketplace style event in their meeting room. This is ideal for young adults as all content will be PG rated. This goes til 12.30, and you’re welcome to come along, peruse what is on offer (I’m not allowed to say “for sale” or “buy), and talk to the creators and ask questions. Tables are currently open for creators wishing to show their PG rated content and original art.
That’s about it for the moment, and I will be updating events on Facebook just after Supanova has finished so we can all keep track of what is on when.
Thankyou for reading and checking out what is happening with MCA Studios – if you have an event, or know of something coming up that you wish MCA Studios to visit or table at, please get in contact.
