Comic Street is a FREE indie comics market right in the heart of Queen Street Mall, Brisbane, organised by Bea Bravo and Samantha Calcraft a.k.a Mammath.
This is the second Comic Street this year, and it’s amazing how many talented artists are in Brisbane! Over 30 individual artists displayed their wares in this undercover but open-air market place in Queen Street Mall, where foot traffic was full of general public viewers who had no idea about indie comics let alone the rich art Brisbane has to offer.
Many of the artists were new, and had not been at the previous Comic Street, but that only added to the quality of work that was on show. There were local guests, Dan Gilmore, Danikah Harrison, Nick Rees, Honey Randell, Stuart Rumbel, Brad Daniels, Tom Magee, Ruby Black, Peter Yong, Cameron Davis, Carmen Espinosa, Daniel Watts, Cutiesaurus, Rye the Art Guy, Samantha Calcraft and many many others (I’m sorry if I forgot to name you, please message me and I’ll put your name in!), as well as interstate artists including Queenie Chan and Ben Slabak.
The best advice I can give when attending one of these events, is take plenty of cash! I took $40 with me, and still didn’t get everything I wanted. Also take water and a bag to carry all your awesome things you can buy!
Here are some pictures from the day (gathered from Facebook because I was too busy talking with everyone instead of taking photos).
